Tickfaw, Louisiana

Tickfaw is a Village in Tangipahoa Parish. Tickfaw's population is made up significantly of Italian-American descendants and is also located in the center of Tangipahoa. 

Tickfaw is an Indian name meaning "Rest Among the Pines or "Pine rest" according to William Read's first analysis. It derives from a contraction of the Choctaw words tiak, "pine," and foha, "rest" or “ease."

The Village was founded in 1852 and was incorporated in 1957 under the leadership of Joe Greco who later became the Village's first mayor. The governing body consists of the Mayor, Board of Aldermen, and an elected Chief of Police.

Saint Joseph's Day (March 19) is a tradition marked by celebrations within the community of Tickfaw. Our Lady of Pompeii hosts a Saint Joseph's Altar each year held in Our Lady of Pompeii Church Hall.

The Blessed Mother Parade is also held each year in Tickfaw on the first weekend in July.

Olympic Gold Medal Winner, Kim Mulkey, is from Tickfaw and has a Street named after her. She is the head coach of the LSU Lady Tigers. She is the first person in NCAA history to win a basketball national championship as a player, assistant coach, and head coach.

Miss Teen Louisiana 2002 and Miss Louisiana 2008, Blair Abene McCurdy is originally from Tickfaw and resided in the Village for many years.

Louisiana National Guardsman, Army Spc. Christopher Drake from Tickfaw was killed in combat in Afghanistan. Chris Drake Drive, a Street in Tickfaw, was named after this brave hero.

The G.W. Nesom House in Tickfaw, Louisiana is a beautiful Eastlake Queen Anne Victorian home built in 1903 by George Wilburn Nesom. The house is filled with antiques and waiting to lull you into a feeling of yesteryear.
